Job Description: 

The Accountant is responsible for leading all finance oversight and activities of VGJ's Denver and Jefferson
County weatherization department. This individual will work in a team leadership structure reporting to the Senior Director of Administration and Finance. VGJ is the weatherization service provider for the Governor's Energy Office (GEO) Denver & Jefferson County weatherization program. The primary mission of this program is to implement the GEO's weatherization service provider contract. This contract
is an annual 6 million dollar state funded program to conduct energy audits and weatherization work for qualified low-income families. More information at http://www.colorado.gov/energy/index.php?/policy/weatherization-assistance/.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide lead responsibility for VGJs overall accounting activities.
2. Oversee the preparation and timely distribution of financial reports for management and grantors.
3. Review contracts with funding sources and design compliance strategies; note systems requirements and ensure compliance with all contract provisions; manage annual audits.
4. Manage internal data-base systems; maintain and secure accurately a wide variety of critical data in an automated system.
5. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Administration and Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS

* A passion for and commitment to the mission of VGJ, the environment, and helping create transformative programs;
* At least a bachelor's degree, preferably a relevant graduate degree; related certifications required.
* Three to five years financial management experience (not-for-profit a plus);
* The experience and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a talented program staff;
* Ability to work in a fast paced, start-up, not-for-profit environment;
* Military experience given preference; demonstrated service ethic a plus (AmeriCorps, Peace Corps);
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
* Cultural sensitivity and commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

Veterans Green Jobs is prepared to offer a starting base salary from $48,000 to $52,000 (plus benefits) and depending on experience. This position also has potential for increased salary and advancement within VGJ's national programs.
