Job Description: 

This is an excellent opportunity for non-profit professional interested in advancing their skills in resource development in a progressive and exciting environmental organization. Must be an excellent project manager who has professional poise and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Must work well both independently and collaboratively.
The Development Manager works with VOC's Executive Director and Director of Programs in a wide variety of tasks related to the organization's resource development efforts. The Development Manager will serve as the primary staff support person responsible for several components of VOC's overall development strategy, specifically including individual giving programs, foundation grants, and special events.
Essential Functions
The Development Manager has the primary responsibilities for:
• Maintaining and enlarging VOC's individual donor base, including writing and content for annual appeals, membership renewals and periodic mail campaigns;
• Research and follow up on new donor prospects for a variety of program areas;
• Tracking deadlines and fundraising milestones;
• Research, preparing, and writing foundation grant proposals and reports;
• Planning and implementing VOC's fundraising events and engagement activities in the Denver metro and other areas throughout the state;
• Managing in-kind corporate solicitations;
• Providing content for website, fundraising and outreach materials, including internet-based marketing and project fundraising campaign;
• Contributing content for electronic newsletters;
• Overseeing the maintenance of VOC's donor database, including the administrative functions required to ensure an accurate database of foundation, corporate, government and individual records.
The Development Manager will also be required to:
• Write business correspondence such as updates, reports, memos and presentations for both internal and external VOC audiences;
• Respond to requests for information, including written correspondence, email, and phone calls as well as providing administrative support;
• Provide overall support for development efforts undertaken by the Executive Director, Director of Programs, and Board; and,
• Perform other tasks and duties as directed.
Qualifications: Education/Skills/Experience
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or four to six years equivalent work experience preferred;
• Three to five years of experience in an administrative and/or project development role in a non-profit, preferably in development, events planning, marketing;
• Previous donor database management experience with demonstrable skill (e.g., Raiser's Edge, eTapestry, FileMaker Pro);
• Excellent internet and print research skills;
• Clear, concise and strong writer, preferably with experience and understanding of writing for an environmental funder/donor audience;
• Demonstrated ability to "make the ask" and to meet/exceed revenue goals ;
• Computer skills, with advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;
• Ability to plan and work to deadlines;
• Curiosity and interest in volunteerism, conservation, and environmental education issues;
• Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy;
• Superb organizational skills;
• Flexible attitude, good sense of humor, ability to work with a diverse staff and volunteer team.
