Background Cascade Land Conservancy (CLC) is a leading edge regional nonprofit land conservation organization, with offices in Pierce, King, Mason, Snohomish and Kittitas counties in Washington State. It also engages in estuary and near shore conservation and stewardship in other coastal counties. CLC's is heading the Cascade Agenda - an innovative program to conserve our region's major landscapes in tandem with the creation of vibrant cities. Summary of Position Cascade Land Conservancy conserves lands and waters throughout the region, from urban natural areas to remote wildlands, to help maintain healthy ecosystems and contribute to creating great human communities. The Green Tacoma Project Associate assists with the partnership between Cascade Land Conservancy, the City of Tacoma, Metro Parks Tacoma, and numerous other organizations and individuals, to restore urban forested parklands and natural areas while developing long-term community stewardship of these lands. The Green Tacoma Project Associate is primarily responsible for assisting in the coordination and implementation of the Green Tacoma Partnership program. Specifically, s/he is responsible for coordinating with volunteers and partners, preparing materials for and implementing public outreach events, researching and educating partners in urban forest and natural areas restoration and management techniques, and helping the public-private partnerships run smoothly. The ideal candidate has experience in applied urban forestry or urban natural area management, successful implementation of community-based stewardship, and environmental education; excellent oral and written communication skills; and a commitment to the vision and goals of Cascade Land Conservancy. 1. Serve as a staff member in the implementation of Green Tacoma Partnership. o Train partner staff and community volunteers in restoration best management practices. o Assist in developing Habitat Steward training materials and hosting training sessions on restoration best management practices, volunteer management, and more. o Help Habitat Stewards develop individual management site plans. o Develop, update, and trouble-shoot tracking mechanisms for restoration work including volunteers and acreage enrolled in the program. o Guide targeted outreach to environmental, stewardship, and civil volunteering communities, and maintain up-to-date printed and digital outreach materials. 2. Assist with public outreach including: press events, fundraising events, and Green City partnerships presentations to stakeholder groups, media, partners, and more. 3. Manage web-based inquiries regarding the Green Tacoma Partnership. 4. Assist the Green Tacoma Project Manager with additional tasks, as needed. 1. Degree in urban forestry, restoration, natural resources, ecology or related field. 2. 1+ year of experience in implementing field-based restoration projects. 3. Experience designing and implementing environmentally-focused education material for people of all ages. 4. Knowledge of Pacific Northwest forest ecosystems. 5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 6. Service-oriented with a positive attitude. Courteous, personable and flexible; able to deal effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people. 7. Commitment to working effectively as a contributing member of the team. 8. Ability to organize diverse and multiple activities, set priorities, and remain flexible under pressure. 9. Must be able to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends. 10. Ability to work under physically demanding conditions, including cold and wet weather. 11. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and operate hand and power tools and other mechanical equipment. 12. Valid, insurable drivers license/record.
