Job Description: 

Date of summer program:
June - August
Job Purpose:
Implement nature-related activities, primarily for ages 4 - 12, during eight-week summer
program - average of 30 - 35 hours per week.
Visitor Center Supervision on weekends. (Shared with other staff and possibility of
extension after summer)
Duties:
Assists with curriculum development, supervises participants, discipline, leads/instructs diverse
activities (natural history topics, crafts, games, skits, songs,), maintain attendance records,
organize program materials and supplies, update inventory of supplies and materials, prepare
activity and craft materials, assist with care and maintenance of small animal displays. Open and
close building at the posted times, greet visitors, respond to general natural history questions and
specific questions about Fenner, assorted duties as needed, i.e., display upkeep, design and create
seasonal displays, organize and file reference material, put away supplies, etc.
Knowledge/Skill Desired:
*Experience working with preschool/elementary/middle school-age youth.
*Familiarity with learning capacity/skill levels/mental and emotional growth of children
ages 4 - 13 years
*At least one year of college-level training in biology, natural history, earth science,
elementary education or related fields and/or commensurate experience.
*Expertise in special skill areas (IE. crafts, music, field investigations)
*Able to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers in a team situation
*Able to maintain energy level throughout the day and lead children safely on the trails
of the park.
*Ability to verbally communicate well with people of all ages.
*Physically able to climb stairs, reach into aquariums and shelves.
Performance Measure:
Verbal and written feedback of parents.
Behavior and enthusiasm of participants.
Observation by Executive Director and other staff.
Preparation time:
Orientation of 18-20 hours over a two week period prior to the start of camp.
Approximately 1 hour each day of camp will be scheduled for cleanup, organization,
review and preparation.
