Job Description: 

The Appalachian Mountain Club seeks a Web Production Associate to support ongoing content development, production and maintenance efforts for our core website, Outdoors.org, related web applications, and AMC's social media strategy. Reporting directly to the AMC Web Manager and working closely with the AMC Communications Team, the Web Production Associate will be instrumental in supporting daily operations for the website and electronic communications efforts. This is a full time, exempt position located in AMC's headquarters in Boston, MA with a competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Responsibilities

* Manage and review content management system (CMS) contributions from AMC staff for consistency, accuracy, and integrity, and approve for publication on Outdoors.org.
* Create new pages in the CMS, incorporating text, graphics, photos, multimedia and other features, and train staff on CMS use and best practices.
* Produce and maintain Flash elements/slideshows and web banners for use on AMC site and support production of external web ads.
* Assist content contributors with image editing and other web production needs.
* Manage production efforts for AMC social media strategy, including maintenance of AMC's Facebook page and Twitter account and evaluation of partner opportunities.
* Track and report on social media campaign performance.
* Assess site content and applications regularly for performance, accuracy and freshness.
* Maintain, refine and document AMC web standards.
* Monitor and respond appropriately to inquiries and comments from site visitors.
* Guide and support AMC chapter website and e-communications projects as necessary.
* Administer online event calendar.
* Administer and provide user support for White Mountain Guide Online application.
* Provide technical support for online trip listings database.
* Assist with production of AMC e-newsletter campaigns and associated list management efforts as needed.
* Perform related duties as assigned.

Employment Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years successful related web production experience in a deadline driven environment.
* Direct hands-on experience and proficiency with Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, WYSIWYG editors (FrontPage, Dreamweaver), MS Office, and content management systems in a web production or agency environment.
* Strong knowledge of HTML; hand-coding experience preferred.
* Understanding of web languages and technology (JavaScript, Flash, cookies, XML)
* Strong understanding of Internet trends and web best practices.
* Experience with web analytics tools (Google Analytics, WebTrends) a plus.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, proofreading, and project management skills.
* Very detail oriented with strong commitment to content quality and consistency.
* Previous experience managing business-oriented social media presence a plus.
* Ability to work both independently and in coordination with a team.
* Organized and able to coordinate several projects at once, often under deadline pressure.
* Passion for the recreation, conservation, education mission of the AMC.
* Physical requirements: Work is performed primarily in a general office setting, with minor physical effort or strain required. Work is normally performed while seated, requires freedom of movement. May spend extended periods of time at a computer terminal, on a telephone, or operating other office machines. This position requires an ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment and manage deadlines. Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.
