The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for management of the Lawson GL module and preparation of quarterly financial statements. The Senior Accounting Manager will maintain Lawson such that accounting entries result in complete and accurate financial statements. The Senior Accounting Manager ensures that regional finance staff submits accounting entries in a timely manner. The Senior Accounting Manager is also the lead for land transactions, using the support of a Staff Accountant to maintain accurate land entries and schedules. The Senior Accounting Manager is the go-to person for all accounting staff in the absence of the Controller.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Communicate the monthly and year-end accounting calendar to the regions. Meet with key accounting personnel to determine any changes to dates. Update the National Finance Calendar throughout the year. Enforce deadlines. * Process end-of-month close, including recurring journal entries, allocations, interzone reconciliation, and other processes as required. * Prepare complete and accurate financial statements, including the Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Cash Flows, Statement of Activities, Statement of Ongoing Support, and the Statement of Functional expenses. * Oversee Lawson functions (setup and discontinue departments, accounts, and allocations, resolve processing issues, etc) for the GL module. Work with Finance to ensure proper implementation and design. * Serve as main point person for Lawson reporting requests, issues, or concerns regarding the GL module. * Act as project manager for implementation of Lawson accounting system upgrades, and provide creative solutions for in-house add-ons and enhancements. * Review and approve land journal entries, ensuring the proper coding of purchase and sale of real property pursuant to FAS 66, and proper accounting for land acquisition funding and landowner donations in accordance with FAS 116. * Prepare, review and approve accounting entries for areas of functional responsibility. * Supervise and develop one direct report, including assigning responsibilities, monitoring and evaluating performance, and administering training when needed. * Assist in the management and oversight of the organization's annual financial statement audit. * Provide information as requested to support the organization's annual financial statement audit. Create necessary audit schedules and provide information to outside auditors as needed. * Oversee and implement process improvements for any area of functional responsibility. * Provide assistance to accounting staff in the absence of the Controller. * Perform other projects as assigned by the Controller.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelors Degree in Business (Accounting or Finance preferred) or equivalent work experience. * Ability to understand and interpret documents relating to real estate transactions, including purchase agreements, escrow instructions, closing papers, grant awards, and landowner donation agreements. * Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience in accounting and/or finance. * Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and accounting applications. Computer literacy, strong aptitude for business software applications . Experience with MS Office '00 including Excel & Word preferred. Experience with Lawson general ledger highly desired. * Attention to detail, diligence and commitment to excellence; requires a high degree of dependability, consistency, and initiative. * Requires excellent oral and written communication skills. * Ability to work under deadline pressure. * Non-profit experience preferred.
