Our Mining Practice is looking for an experienced professional to serve as "Senior Project Estimator" in our growing practice in Tempe, Arizona.



Responsibilities:

   

 

   

The position is generally responsible for the quality of electrical design drawings performed by the electrical engineering design discipline located in Stantec’s Mining practice.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Works with the electrical engineers to produce electrical designs meeting requirements and codes.
  • Quality Assurance of Electrical and Control Detail Engineering and Design project deliverables generated.
  • Follows project budgets and schedules in coordination with the multidiscipline groups.
  • Ensures discipline standards are followed as established and maintained.
  • Day-to-day coordination with other project disciplines
  • Reports to the Chief Designer and Chief Electrical Engineer

The Senior Project Estimator is responsible for developing underground mine project cost estimates, mine development and construction schedules ranging from order-of-magnitude level to detailed working cost estimates, based on the latest available costing methodology and data, and presenting the results in a work breakdown format suitable for use by the Client, Project Manager, and project team.  The Senior Project Estimator reports to the Manager of Mining/Estimating, but on a day-to-day basis works in collaboration with Project Managers and the project team.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Prepare mine development and construction capital cost estimates based on the latest data available, as appropriate to the current phase of the project.
  2. Prepare mine production operating cost estimates based on the latest data available, as appropriate to the current phase of the project.
  3. Prepare mine development and construction schedules based on the latest data available, as appropriate to the current phase of the project.
  4. Assist Project Managers and project team in developing work breakdown structures (WBS).
  5. Assist Project Managers in decisions on development and/or construction approaches or methods based on information available.
  6. Prepare life-of-mine or project phase expenditure schedules.
  7. Study report preparation would include the creation of figures, tables, written text and compilation of associated engineering backup data.
  8. Participate in project economic evaluations.
  9. Assist in other areas required to deliver a quality product on schedule and on budget.

Qualifications:

WORKING CONDITIONS/REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

 

The position requires the incumbent to work Monday through Friday in an office environment.  Generally short international or domestic trips would be expected of this position.  The possibility of extended stay trips would likely be very infrequent.

 

 

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

 

Relevant training and/or certification with a project cost estimating department or organization and 10+ years experience working in a similar capacity. 

 

The position requires experience with preparing underground mine construction and development cost estimates including mine shaft development, lateral and ramp development, raise development and underground and surface mine infrastructure.

 

The Senior Project Estimator must have competence with analysis, numeration, research, and the use of spreadsheet and scheduling software (minimum requirement is proficiency in Excel, MSProject) and experience with data-base cost estimating software.  The Senior Project Estimator must be able to demonstrate leadership abilities and posses above average written and oral communication skills.  The ability to work well in a team environment is also essential for this position.

 

Strong familiarity with latest underground mobile and fixed mine equipment, development methodologies and construction techniques is required.

 

Practical underground mine development and construction experience is a requirement.
